Former B.C. Conservative MLA is 7th to join new party
Wilson becomes the seventh MLA to join a new provincial party after leaving the BC Conservative caucus over leadership concerns.
On Monday, Boundary-Similkameen MLA Donegal Wilson announced she is joining the new provincial party led by former Conservative MLA Peter Milobar, becoming the seventh legislator to join the emerging centre-right coalition.
Dissatisfaction with Conservative leader Kerry-Lynne Findlay prompted the departures; Milobar, who lost the leadership race to Findlay, founded the group in mid-August alongside Delta South MLA Ian Paton.
Wilson cited the group's "significant strides" in recent weeks, stating she wanted to avoid rebuilding an "old, failed party" and instead focus on delivering for British Columbians.
Milobar's party now holds seven seats in the B.C. legislature, reshaping the political landscape; meanwhile, former Conservative MLAs Scott McInnis and Brennan Day have chosen to sit as Independents.
When the B.C. legislature resumes next month, the unnamed party will sit as a caucus while facing competition for centrist voters from the Centre BC party led by former Liberal MLA Mike Bernier.
