Dolly Parton and Miley Cyrus weren’t just godmother and goddaughter — they were actually related
Ancestry.com said the singers are seventh cousins, once removed, deepening a longtime family bond built through music and years of collaboration.
On Tuesday, Miley Cyrus revealed that her godmother, Dolly Parton, provided advice on promoting projects, which helped bring her Hannah Montana 20th anniversary special to life, according to Variety.
Dolly formed a close bond with Billy Ray Cyrus while touring in the early 1990s, which is how she eventually became Miley's godmother. The pair stayed very close through the years.
According to an Ancestry report, Miley and Dolly are seventh cousins, once removed, sharing roots tracing back to John Brickey in the 1700s who lived within a 20-mile radius of what is now Dollywood in Tennessee.
The pair's professional collaboration includes Dolly's guest stint on Hannah Montana, co-hosting a New Year's Eve special in 2023, and both appearing on Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter album.
Parton taught Cyrus to stay true to herself, sharing wisdom: "You do you, I'll do me, and together we'll be us." This helped Cyrus understand being loved rather than worshipped.
