Social Security Checks Could Get a Boost in 2027. Here's What We Know
TSCL projects a 3.6% increase, while AARP and other analysts offer lower forecasts before the official calculation is released.
Millions of Americans will learn the official 2027 Social Security cost-of-living adjustment on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, with The Senior Citizens League currently projecting a 3.6% increase.
The Social Security Administration determines annual COLA adjustments by comparing the average Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers from the third quarter of this year against the same period last year.
TSCL forecasts the 3.6% increase would boost monthly checks by $69.75, while AARP projects a 3.5% COLA, adding about $73 to retired workers' monthly income.
Analysts at the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget forecast a lower 3.2% COLA, warning that high adjustments "also impose significant costs on a Social Security retirement fund that is just six years from insolvency."
AARP Public Policy Institute Vice President Rich Johnson noted that family budgets remain under pressure despite inflation easing in July, making early COLA forecasts essential for seniors' financial planning.
