Justice Department Sues DC Authorities over Efforts to Discipline Jeff Clark, Ed Martin
The filing says D.C. bar discipline would punish federal lawyers for internal executive branch advice and violate the Constitution.
On Wednesday, the Justice Department filed a lawsuit against D.C. disciplinary officials seeking to nullify disbarment proceedings against Jeffrey Clark, claiming authorities are "weaponizing" state bar discipline to target federal attorneys.
The investigation stems from Clark's attempts to push Justice Department leaders to issue a letter alleging election "irregularities" in Georgia, a swing state Trump lost to Biden by 11,779 votes.
In July, the Appeals Board on Professional Responsibility recommended disbarring Clark for "serious violations of professional conduct," while the Justice Department argues the proceedings violate the Supremacy Clause and Article II.
Other Trump allies have faced similar sanctions: Rudy Giuliani was disbarred in D.C. and New York, and John Eastman's California law license was suspended on an interim basis.
