The Iowa Department of Corrections (DOC) has announced the death of an Iowa State Penitentiary inmate serving a life sentence a 2020 murder.

Inmate serving time for Madison County crimes dies in prison

FORT MADISON, Iowa — The Iowa Department of Corrections says a man serving time at the Iowa State Penitentiary for crimes committed in Madison County, has died in prison. 47-year -old Gerald Steven Parker’s sentence began March 3rd, 2021. He died at Monday afternoon, May 4, 2026. His cause of death was not released.
