Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos Says Ranveer Singh’s ‘Dhurandhar’ Is the World’s Most-Watched Non-English Film This Year
Sarandos said the film drew 37 million views on Netflix and topped viewing charts in 22 countries after a record theatrical run.
On Thursday, Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos revealed that director Aditya Dhar's 'Dhurandhar' is Netflix's most-watched non-English film of 2026, sharing the milestone at The Indian Express Express Adda event.
Starring Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, and Rakesh Bedi, the two-part series collected over Rs 3100 crore worldwide in theatres before streaming on Netflix shortly after its 2025 and 2026 releases.
Between January and June 2026, the movie recorded 37 million views and topped Netflix charts in 22 countries, with global users watching 3.5 billion hours of Indian content this year.
Addressing comparisons to hits like 'Squid Game' or 'Money Heist', Sarandos argued that India is already experiencing its "global moment," emphasizing Indian cinema's rich history as a breakthrough vehicle.
During his recent visit, the executive met Prime Minister Narendra Modi to unveil the "Netflix India Storytelling Initiative" while celebrating 10 years of Netflix in India, expanding the platform's footprint.
