DHS Thwarts Iranian Terrorist Threats at the Northern Border, World Cup Ties
U.S. officials said 11 Iranian team officials and staff were denied visas as Iran rejected claims that World Cup delegates had IRGC ties.
- On Sunday, DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin told Fox News that Iran attempted to smuggle individuals with "direct ties" to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps into the United States by posing them as World Cup soccer team members.
- Mullin also reported an "unusual amount" of Iranian nationals attempting to sneak into the United States through the Northern Border, with arrests increasing daily while Southern Border crossings remain closed due to President Trump's policies.
- While most World Cup teams travel with around 120 people, the United States accepted only 53 members of the Iranian delegation because the secretary alleged others held "direct ties" to the IRGC.
- The FFIRI rejected the allegations as "fabricated and entirely baseless," with the federation specifically denying that any official representative attempted to board a flight to the United States or held ties to the IRGC.
- These accusations emerge as Vice President Vance works in Switzerland on peace talks, though Mullin claimed Iran's regime has chanted "Death to America" for 49 years and seeks to activate terrorist "sleeper cells.
