Detroit Tigers trade rookie reliever to Blue Jays

On Dec. 12, 2025, the Detroit Tigers traded right-handed reliever Chase Lee to the Toronto Blue Jays for 24-year-old left-handed reliever Johan Simon.
Roster needs prompted the Tigers to trade Lee, opening a 40-man roster spot for veteran right-hander Kyle Finnegan, whose signing should be made official soon.
Lee, 27, debuted in 2025 and appeared in 32 games with a 4.10 ERA and a 4-1 record over 37.1 innings after being acquired from the Texas Rangers in the Andrew Chafin trade.
Detroit's 40-man roster now stands at 38 players and will be full when Kyle Finnegan, veteran right-hander, and Drew Anderson, right-hander, are added, the club reported.
With experience through Double-A, the 24-year-old Johan Simon, 24, split 2025 among Single-A Dunedin, High-A Vancouver and Double-A New Hampshire, posting a 3.42 ERA with 32 strikeouts in 71.0 innings.
