Pistons Start Camp without All-Star Center Jalen Duren on Roster, Failing to Agree to Long-Term Deal
Detroit opened training camp without the All-Star center as negotiations continue, and he can still sign a one-year qualifying offer by Thursday.
The Detroit Pistons opened training camp on Monday, Sept. 28, 2026, without All-NBA center Jalen Duren, who remains absent amid a contentious contract standoff with the franchise.
Duren reportedly declined a five-year, $200 million offer, with his camp citing frustration over the negotiation process following concerns about his playoff performance drop earlier this year.
The center has until Thursday, Oct. 1, to sign a one-year, $9.6 million qualifying offer, which would make him an unrestricted free agent after the 2026-27 season.
Detroit Pistons President of Basketball Operations Trajan Langdon said he remains "excited to have him back" and has not spoken with Duren throughout the summer.
Awarding a supermax extension could limit salary cap flexibility as the franchise builds around core players Cade Cunningham and Ausar Thompson, complicating the team's financial strategy.
