Because of the low water only a few ships can sail on the Rhine, trucks are supposed to help with transport - even on Sundays. First assessments show how this affects traffic.
The Sunday ban was relaxed because of the low water – but the regulation is used only little.
Rhine ships can hardly drive because of the low water, loosening of the Sunday driving bans for trucks should help the affected industry. However, this is obviously above all a symbol policy.
The lifting of the truck driving ban on Sundays and holidays due to the low water has so far only led to a limited increase in traffic.
In several federal states the Sunday driving ban for trucks was suspended, but this did not lead to a significant increase in truck journeys.
