Harris County Deputy Shooting Suspect Captured After Manhunt
Patin faces three first-degree felony charges after authorities say he shot a deputy and fled in a patrol car, prompting an 11-hour search.
On Thursday morning, authorities apprehended Chase Layne Patin in Channelview, Texas, ending an 11-hour dragnet after a resident's barking dogs alerted law enforcement to his hiding spot in a backyard shed.
The incident began Wednesday when three deputies responded to a family disturbance in the 1100 block of Bayou Drive near the I-10 East Freeway, where Patin allegedly shot a deputy in the leg before fleeing.
Patin fled the scene in a stolen patrol car, abandoning it near Dell Dale Street before running on foot into surrounding subdivisions while U.S. Marshals and Harris County Precinct 3 deputies canvassed neighborhoods through the night.
The wounded deputy remains hospitalized in fair condition and expected to recover, while Patin now faces three first-degree felony charges of aggravated assault against a police officer with prior arrests for weapons possession and narcotics.
Court dockets show Patin had been wanted since July 17 for bond forfeiture after failing to obtain a GPS monitor, and was out on bond for felon in possession of a firearm with four previous felony convictions.
