Five mayors, including Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Vahap Seçer, were removed from office by a decision of the Ministry of Interior.
Murat Güneş, the acting mayor of Ataşehir, and Mithat Bülent Özmen, the mayor of Eyüpsultan, who were arrested, were removed from their positions by a decision of the Ministry of Interior dated October 6th. The Ataşehir and Eyüpsultan municipal councils will convene on Saturday, October 10th, to elect new acting mayors.
The Istanbul Governorship announced that Eyüpsultan Mayor Mithat Bülent Özmen and Ataşehir Deputy Mayor Murat Güneş, who were arrested, have been removed from their positions. The Governorship stated that elections for acting mayors in both districts will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026.
