Data Centers Front and Center in Ohio Senate Race
NBC News found voters trust Democrats more on data centers, while nearly two-thirds said they would back away from a candidate who supported one nearby.
NBC News polling shows voters trust Democrats over Republicans on data centers by 32 percent to 20 percent, giving Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown an opening against Republican Senator Jon Husted in Ohio's Senate race.
Brown is casting Husted as the "face of data centers," arguing companies collected $2.5 billion in tax breaks while residents face higher electricity bills.
Husted rejected the criticism as hypocritical, citing Brown's earlier record supporting development, while promoting his Ratepayer Protection Act to ensure companies cover infrastructure costs.
Although the Ratepayer Protection Act passed the House 417-3 earlier this month, it stalled in the Senate; Husted maintains siting decisions should remain a local matter.
With polls showing a statistical tie, the race remains a toss-up; control of the Senate hinges on this contest, which has become a focal point of the 2026 midterm cycle.
