Ruben Gallego’s Campaign Funded Luxury Family Outings
Politico says Gallego’s committees spent nearly $35,000 on Super Bowl tickets and thousands more on family travel and childcare reimbursements.
On Sunday, Politico reported that Senator Ruben Gallego routinely used campaign funds for family trips, including Disney parks and a 2023 Super Bowl event costing nearly $35,000.
The 2023 Super Bowl gathering was billed as a fundraiser for the Swallego Victory Fund, where Gallego and Rep. Eric Swalwell used campaign funds for tickets and a $2,715 brunch.
Campaign records show Gallego disbursed more than $18,000 for childcare and spent over $9,000 on a hotel in Miami for family travel, according to FEC filings.
A spokesperson for Gallego defended the spending, claiming tickets were purchased at "fair market value" and that hosting donors at events is a common, bipartisan practice permitted by FEC regulations.
Senate leadership is weighing an ethics investigation into Gallego regarding allegations of misconduct that are "sexual in nature," though officials have yet to determine if the probe will proceed.
