After Decade-Long Wait, Delhi Gets Signal-Free Barapullah Link; East Delhi-AIIMS Run Could Drop to 15 Minutes

- Construction of the project began in 2015, facing significant setbacks including a seven-year land acquisition dispute and technical challenges building a bridge across the Yamuna floodplain. These obstacles made it one of Delhi's most delayed infrastructure projects.
- This elevated corridor features a dedicated cycle track and eight loops positioned at Sarai Kale Khan and Mayur Vihar. Engineers utilized pillar spans stretching nearly 125 m across the Yamuna to minimize environmental interference within the active river zone.
- Improved access to Sarai Kale Khan transit hub integrates the National Capital Region Transport Corporation, Indian Railways, ISBT, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, and Mumbai Expressway. The corridor also aims to decongest traffic along the Delhi Noida Direct, National Highway-24, and Ring Road.
- Initially estimated at Rs 1,260.63 crore, the project is now expected to cost over Rs 1,500 crore. After the BJP came to power in Delhi last year, the government secured Centre clearance to transplant trees, overcoming a key environmental hurdle.
