Police are probing lease terms and repair work after the five-storey building collapse killed seven people, sources said.
- Police arrested a PG operator in connection with the collapse of a five-storey building in Satya Niketan, New Delhi, which left seven people dead. Authorities are probing the role of leaseholders regarding recent construction and repair work.
- On Monday, a Delhi court remanded building owner Hariram, an 81-year-old retired Indian Air Force sergeant, his wife Urmila, and their son Mahesh to custody. Mahesh had leased the property in August 2025 to business partners Sudhanshu and Shubham Tyagi to operate 'Hostel Daze'.
- Basement repairs had been underway for eight to 10 days before the collapse, while the rent agreement allegedly absolved operators of "casualties or risk" to tenants. Investigators are examining whether these structural changes compromised building stability.
- Sudhanshu, one of the two business partners, is in police custody while investigators search for the absconding Tyagi. Police are also questioning Sanoj, a labour contractor, regarding construction and repair work performed on the premises.
- The tragedy has sparked safety concerns among students in the South Campus area, forcing scrutiny of building standards. Authorities continue to probe whether additional floors were constructed illegally to maximize rental income from the aging structure.
