Priority Candidate Selected in Search for New UNMC Chancellor
Davies, an internal candidate, would oversee UNMC’s academic health center and campus operations if selected, officials said.
The University of Nebraska named Dr. H. Dele Davies as the priority candidate for chancellor of the University of Nebraska Medical Center, where he has served as interim chancellor for two years.
NU President Jeffrey Gold praised Davies as a "thoughtful and strategic leader," noting he previously served as UNMC's chief academic officer for over a decade.
UNMC prepares to acquire Nebraska Medicine from Clarkson College in an $800 million buyout, a transition Davies intends to manage by building community trust.
The NU system will hold a 30-day public vetting process, including visits to Omaha, Lincoln, Kearney, Norfolk, and Scottsbluff to engage stakeholders.
Davies envisions a "500-mile-wide campus" dedicated to meeting Nebraska's workforce needs and advancing medical research, ensuring barrier-free access to healthcare education.
