Debris from missing Ontario-based air ambulance located: U.S. Coast Guard
On Saturday, the U.S. Coast Guard located debris confirmed to be from a missing Canadian-registered Gulfstream G-100 air ambulance off the coast of Nantucket, Massachusetts. The aircraft had departed Bermuda for Boston early that morning.
Hamilton-Based Latitude Air Ambulance confirmed the aircraft carried four crew members and two passengers seeking medical care in Boston. The flight departed Wade International Airport in Bermuda at 12:41 a.m. Saturday.
The Coast Guard deployed crews from Air Station Cape Cod, Station Brant Point with a 47-foot motor lifeboat, and the USCGC William Sparling to search an area 30 nautical miles wide and 20 nautical miles long, about 13 nautical miles offshore.
Premier David Burt stated, "My thoughts are with everyone on board and their families during this deeply worrying time," as authorities continue searching for the six missing individuals. The Bermuda government confirmed contact with families.
The Federal Aviation Administration issued a search and rescue alert at 1:20 a.m. Saturday after air traffic controllers lost contact with the jet. Massport confirmed the aircraft never arrived at Logan International Airport as scheduled.
