Glasgow-Born Crime Author Peter May Dies in South of France
His books sold around 15 million copies worldwide, and he was preparing a final novel and farewell tour, his publisher said.

- May worked as a journalist and television scriptwriter before finding literary fame. He produced seminal series including Take the High Road and the Gaelic-language, Isle of Lewis-set Machair, which inspired his love for the Hebrides.
- The publication of the Lewis-set thriller The Blackhouse in 2011 brought May international fame, launching The Lewis Trilogy. He published a bestseller almost every year until his final book, The Black Loch, in 2024.
- After his wife, Janice Hally, announced the "awful news" of his death, she stated she had "no words to express the loss." May had delivered his final novel, Island of the Dead, scheduled for January 2027.
- Publisher John Riley remembered May for his "kindness, generosity and largeness of spirit," calling him "irreplaceable." May had been planning a "farewell tour" of Scotland and Lewis to coincide with his final book's release.
