Kamloops-Trained Thrower Katzberg Wins Commonwealth Games Hammer Gold
Canada added 12 medals on Day 4 as Katzberg set a Games record and teammate Rowan Hamilton took bronze in the hammer throw.
On Monday, July 27, Ethan Katzberg won gold in the men's hammer throw at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, setting a Commonwealth Games record with an 80.97-metre effort at EDF Scotstoun Stadium.
Katzberg's victory completes his sweep of major titles, following his breakthrough silver at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, which he credits for launching his international career.
Fellow Canadian Rowan Hamilton captured bronze with a 75.36-metre throw, while Cyprus' Iosif Kesidis took silver with 76.97 metres; Canada reached 27 total medals by Tuesday.
Following his 2024 Paris Olympic victory and world championships in 2023 and 2025, Katzberg holds a 2026 world-leading season best of 83.64 metres, achieved earlier this month in Hungary.
"It's quite a small community, and we're all pushing each other to be better," Katzberg said in a news release, noting Canada's competitive environment makes the sport enjoyable.
