David Njoku Injury Update: Latest on Chargers Tight End's Status

The Chargers will be without both offseason tight end additions for at least four games, leaving Oronde Gadsden as the only healthy player at the position.

  • On Monday, Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh announced that tight ends David Njoku and Charlie Kolar will be placed on injured reserve following their early exits during Sunday's 26-14 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.
  • Njoku suffered a fibula injury, while Kolar sustained a forearm injury during the game. Kolar's left arm was later seen in a sling after playing 68 snaps before exiting early.
  • Placing these offseason additions on injured reserve leaves second-year Oronde Gadsden as the team's only healthy tight end. The Chargers signed Njoku to a $3 million deal and Kolar to a $24.3 million contract.
  • Injuries continue to mount for the 0-2 team, as Harbaugh confirmed that Kayode Awosika and Dalvin Tomlinson will "miss some time." Five of the team's eight free-agent signings are currently sidelined with injuries.
  • Facing a challenging Week 3 road game against the Buffalo Bills, the team may look to the practice squad for depth. Options include Evan Svoboda and Patrick Herbert, the brother of quarterback Justin Herbert.
