Davey says Lib Dems won’t give up fight against ‘nasty populism’
Davey said the party would not be ground down as it set out maternity-care and youth work-experience pledges and attacked Reform’s donors.
Lib Dem Leader Sir Ed Davey issued a rallying call to members on the first day of the annual conference, vowing his party "won't give up the fight" to defeat "nasty populism."
Davey targeted Nigel Farage's Reform and Elon Musk, denouncing Reform's "£72 million arsenal of hate and lies" and claiming they "don't speak for the real United Kingdom."
Lib Dem health spokesperson Helen Morgan proposed a £600 million plan for one-to-one maternity care, targeting £1.3 billion in annual NHS negligence compensation savings. Education spokesperson Munira Wilson pledged 100 hours of work experience for students.
Sir Ed confirmed the party is ready if Prime Minister Andy Burnham calls a general election, citing the party's "distinctive position" on rejoining the single market and customs union.
Drawing on his early political activism against Apartheid-era South Africa, Davey emphasized the global fight against far-right movements, declaring his organization "a party that won't be ground down.
