Dave Bautista to Play Kratos in GOD OF WAR Show

The series is restarting after Ryan Hurst’s injury, with reshoots and a two-season order still in place, producers said.

  • Dave Bautista has finalized a deal to play Kratos in Prime Video's 'God of War' series, replacing original lead Ryan Hurst. The former WWE star steps into the physically demanding role for the anticipated two-season adaptation.
  • Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television opted to recast after Hurst tore his bicep during a stunt roughly four months into filming. The severe injury required surgery, which would have delayed production until 2027.
  • Emmy Award-winning director Frederick E.O. Toye will direct the first two episodes as production resumes in Vancouver. The series follows Kratos and his ten-year-old son Atreus, played by Callum Vinson, through Norse mythology.
  • With Bautista locked in, the production team will begin prep this month for a mid-October restart in Vancouver. All scenes previously filmed with Hurst must be reshot with the new lead.
  • Prime Video has ordered two seasons of the series, set to film back-to-back. Bautista, currently attached to the upcoming 'Highlander' reboot, brings extensive action experience to this major role.
