Daniss Jenkins goes from being an undrafted free agent on a 2-way contract to key player for Pistons
Daniss Jenkins delivered 12 points and seven rebounds in 29 minutes as Detroit’s bench guard helped the Pistons beat Cleveland in Game 1.
On Tuesday, Detroit Pistons guard Daniss Jenkins recorded 12 points and three assists in 29 minutes during Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals, helping defeat the fourth-seeded Cleveland Cavaliers while providing critical support for Cade Cunningham.
Jenkins, an undrafted free agent from Dallas, signed a two-way deal with the Pistons after the 2024 NBA draft, then secured an $8 million, two-year contract in February upon playing his 42nd game.
Pistons coach J.B. Bickerstaff noted Jenkins improved 'every single game' after a slow start against the Orlando Magic, while he recorded 10 consecutive games scoring in double digits during the regular season.
Cleveland Cavaliers coach Kenny Atkinson praised Detroit's depth, saying 'They have really good players surrounding him and a really good bench,' acknowledging Jenkins' role in relieving pressure on Cunningham.
Despite his rapid ascent, Jenkins remains focused on winning, stating 'We're still trying to win it, and we're not nowhere where we want to be,' while avoiding reflection on his journey.
