Nigeria: Refinery'll Become World's Largest By 2028
The refinery’s proposed share sale would be open to all investors as the company says expansion work could make it the world’s largest by 2028.
- On Monday, Aliko Dangote, Chairman of Dangote Group, announced the Dangote Petroleum Refinery will become the world's largest refinery by 2028 following a planned expansion of the 700,000-barrel-per-day facility.
- Reflecting on the project's origins, Dangote noted the journey started more than 10 years ago with bank support, as lenders demonstrated confidence in the facility before seeing the refinery site or license.
- Chief Executive Officer David Bird said the refinery currently ranks among the six largest globally, serving Nigeria and West African markets while helping offset supply disruptions from Middle East and Ukraine conflicts.
- Dangote confirmed the proposed IPO will be open to all investors without segregation, stating, "There is no segregation on who can own the shares," and calling it a significant milestone for Africa.
- Expanding beyond Nigeria, the group plans further investments in Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, and Namibia to support its Vision 2030 agenda focused on accelerating Africa's industrialization and strengthening energy security.
