Jalapenos Recalled From Costco Stores because of Salmonella
Dairyland Produce said 7 lot codes are affected and the company has stopped production and distribution after the jalapeños were linked to Salmonella risk.
Houston-Based Dairyland Produce, doing business as Hardie's Fresh Foods, is recalling jalapeños sold at two Costco locations in Dallas and Stafford, Texas, due to potential Salmonella contamination.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported Wednesday that this recall is part of a broader Salmonella outbreak that has infected at least 431 people across 32 states.
Federal regulators confirmed the Hardie's recall is part of a wider outbreak initiated by Coast Citrus Distributors, which has expanded to include produce sold at Walmart, Kroger, and Whole Foods.
Consumers should return recalled peppers to the place of purchase for a full refund; Salmonella infection causes diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps within 12 to 72 hours of ingestion.
The outbreak coincides with separate food safety investigations into a multistate cyclosporiasis cluster linked to lettuce, prompting broader questions about produce safety and imported food inspection processes.
