Veteran Actor Anant Nag to Receive Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2024, PM Narendra Modi Congratulates Him
The lifetime cinema honour recognizes his decades-long Kannada film career and more than 270 screen credits, the Press Information Bureau said.
- On Wednesday, the government announced actor Anant Nag as the Dadasaheb Phalke Award recipient for 2024, with the 72nd National Film Awards ceremony scheduled for September 22, 2026, in Kevadia, Gujarat.
- With a filmography spanning five decades, the 78-year-old actor has appeared in more than 270 films, over 175 of them in Kannada alongside work in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, and Malayalam cinema.
- Notably, Anant Nag received the Padma Bhushan in 2025 and appeared in acclaimed films including "Minchina Ota," "Hamsageethe," "Ankur," and "Manthan," plus the Doordarshan series "Malgudi Days" based on Narayan's works.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the actor, writing that his "effortless performances, remarkable versatility and brilliance have left a very strong mark on Indian cinema." Modi called it a "richly deserved honour."
- The Dadasaheb Phalke Award Selection Committee recommended Anant Nag for his "illustrious cinematic journey that has inspired generations," recognizing his significant contributions to Indian cinema across his long-standing career.
