The Number of Elderly People with Dementia Is Increasing in Croatia: Experts Warn of the First Signs
The number of people over the age of 65 diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia in Croatia increased by more than 4,300 people from 2021 to 2025, from 25,197 to 29,512, the Croatian Institute of Public Health (HZJZ) announced on the occasion of World Alzheimer's Day, which is marked on September 21.
According to data from the Central Health Information System, the number of registered people in this age group grew every year in the observed period, from 25,931 in 2022, 26,915 in 2023, and 28,273 in 2024.
Age is the most important risk factor for developing dementia, but some of the factors that can increase the risk can be influenced.
