Rutherford Stepping Down as Vancouver Canucks’ President of Hockey Operations
Rutherford will step down after a 25-49-8 season and move into an adviser role as the Canucks reshape their hockey operations.
On Tuesday, Vancouver Canucks President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford announced he is stepping down from his executive role, marking the end of his tenure with the team.
Rutherford was initially hired as Vancouver's president of hockey operations and interim general manager on December 9, 2021, four days after the team fired general manager Jim Benning.
The Canucks finished the season last in the standings with a 25-49-8 record, and the organization fired general manager Patrik Allvin on April 17.
Rutherford will transition into an adviser role with the organization after next month's NHL Draft, according to his statement.
The Hockey Hall member previously led the Pittsburgh Penguins to back-to-back Stanley Cups and helped the Hurricanes win the Cup in 2006 during his 20 years as general manager in Carolina.
