Buhari's Ex-Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman Loses Bid to Stop Trial in Alleged N33.8bn Fraud
The Federal High Court found sufficient evidence from 17 witnesses and 43 exhibits to require Saleh Mamman to present his defense against a N33.8 billion fraud charge.
- On Thursday Justice Omotosho rejected Saleh Mamman, former minister's no-case submission filed in November, finding the prosecution's evidence established a prima facie case at the Federal High Court, Abuja.
- EFCC arraigned Mamman on a 12-count amended charge alleging money laundering and conspiracy to indirectly convert N33.8 billion meant for the Zungeru and Mambilla Hydro Electric Power projects, in charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/273/2024.
- The prosecution presented 17 prosecution witnesses and 43 exhibits , with the judge saying the evidence supplied sufficient ground for the trial to proceed.
- Justice Omotosho emphasised that a prima facie case does not prove guilt and affirmed Saleh Mamman's Section 36 rights to a fair hearing and defence.
- Delivering the ruling on Thursday, Justice Omotosho ordered Saleh Mamman to open his defence under Section 36 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and fixed defence hearing dates.
