Nauru, a tiny island nation facing the risk of being submerged by the Pacific Ocean, has launched a "golden passport" program to encourage its citizens to move to higher altitudes. Citizenship, sold for $90,000, offers visa-free travel to 85 countries.
The government of Nauru, the tiny Pacific Republic, opened at the beginning of 2025 the sale of its citizenship to 78,000 euros to finance the withdrawal of its population to the interior of the land, through the climate resilience programme that it launched.
