‘Upsetting and Disrespectful’: Terry Fox Statue in Hero’s Hometown Allegedly Vandalized
Police say an unidentified substance coated part of the statue’s head and chest, and Coquitlam RCMP are seeking witnesses to the alleged mischief.
On Wednesday, June 17, 2026, Coquitlam RCMP began investigating alleged 'mischief' to the Terry Fox statue at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre on Wilson Avenue.
An 'unidentified substance' was poured onto the statue between midnight on June 12 and 7 a.m. on June 13, coating its head and chest.
Located in the 2100-block of Wilson Avenue in Port Coquitlam, the statue is the focus of an active police investigation currently underway.
Witnesses or anyone with information should contact Coquitlam RCMP at 604-945-1550 and reference file number 2026-15377.
Adriana O'Malley called the damage 'both upsetting and disrespectful' to the legacy Fox created, whose contributions to cancer research continue to inspire Canadians.
