The warming of the seas is accelerating, according to Copernicus Marine Service's ninth Ocean State Report. Global ocean surface temperatures reached a record 21 degrees in the spring of 2024. According to data, this was taken into account since 1982. Even seemingly small changes in the ocean surface temperature could have enormous effects on important components of the Earth system, they said.
