The UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) COP17 summit ended on Friday following two weeks of negotiations and almost $650 million of new financial commitments, but without reaching agreement on a landmark framework to strengthen drought resilience.
The COP 17 to combat desertification, which ends on Friday 28 July in Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia), may not allow real progress on this major issue, the fault of US and Western negotiators. Other countries, such as Brazil, or Côte d'Ivoire, are taking the lead.
