Conservatives nominate Diane Black in Nechako Lakes
Black, a Vanderhoof-raised accountant, says she will focus on cutting red tape and securing more local reinvestment for northern communities.
The Conservative Party of British Columbia announced Diane Black as its candidate for the Nechako Lakes riding in the Oct. 24 provincial election, replacing John Rustad after nearly two decades.
A Vanderhoof-raised accountant with an MBA, Black secured the nomination after competing against three other contenders, including Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako director Clint Lambert and Houston mayor Shane Brienen.
Black prioritizes cutting red tape to "move business forward," citing a local company that waited two years for approvals. She criticized Agricultural Land Reserve rules as "made in the south for the south," saying they fail to suit northern conditions.
Emphasizing her commitment to "fight for the North," Black advocates for localized support systems and collaborative relationships with First Nations. She noted her family has historically pushed politicians to do more for northern residents.
Rustad, who announced his retirement last month, promised to support Black as she learns the riding's history and issues. Black acknowledged "some chaos" in recent party rearrangements but remains focused on representing Nechako Lakes.
