Conservative MP Scott Aitchison to resign by end of year: source
Scott Aitchison’s departure adds to a recent wave of Conservative MPs leaving electoral politics, with no public reason given for his planned exit.
Conservative MP Scott Aitchison is expected to resign his Parry Sound-Muskoka seat later this fall, according to two sources who told CBC News; a senior Conservative source said Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre was informed last week.
Aitchison has represented Ontario's Parry Sound-Muskoka since the 2019 election and launched a leadership bid in the 2022 Conservative campaign; Poilievre named him housing critic.
His departure reflects broader caucus turnover, with former MPs Cathay Wagantall and Larry Brock stepping down in the past month alongside Aitchison's exit.
The announcement of Aitchison's resignation is expected next week, with his departure timed for the end of the fall sitting; his office did not immediately comment.
Prime Minister Mark Carney appointed former Conservative MP Richard Martel to the Senate earlier this summer, and Martel was sworn into the Red Chamber earlier this week.
