At a press conference in Washington on Monday, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent unveiled a new round of sanctions against Iran targeting gold, technology, digital assets, aviation, and maritime shipping. He also issued a strong warning to countries that continue to support Tehran.
The ministry said it had issued orders against five economic sectors that the Iranian government uses to prop up its economy.
The United States plans to impose secondary sanctions on countries that trade with Iran or otherwise enable its activities.
