Confidence and age are among the top reasons Brits don’t start a business
A poll of 2,000 adults found 60% say lack of funding is the main barrier, while 47% want protection from things going wrong.

Six in 10 Brits cite lack of funding as the primary barrier to pursuing entrepreneurial visions, while 76 per cent remain unaware government support is available for startups, according to AXA's research.
A OnePoll survey of 2,000 adults found 47 per cent would be more likely to start a business if protected from failure, while 28 per cent identified Tax and accounting as their biggest struggle.
Respondents proposed policy changes to improve the startup climate, with 29 per cent calling for lower business rates, 24 per cent suggesting slashed energy bills, and 24 per cent citing reduced National Insurance.
AXA Insurance Commercial managing director Mike Crane, overseeing the £25,000 AXA Startup Angel competition, stressed that having the right support is vital when Starting a business fraught with challenges.
