Comox Valley athlete competes for Canada's Strongest Man title
Hayes placed third in Calgary and Beijing, earning a spot among Canada’s top 12 strongmen after injuries sidelined him since 2023.
Comox Valley strongman Sean Hayes qualified for Canada's Strongest Man on Aug. 30 in Quebec after earning a top-twelve ranking at Western Canada's Strongest Man in Calgary.
Hayes, a single parent pursuing an MBA, transitioned to strongman in about 2019 because the sport's variety helps manage his ADHD while balancing his degree and three children.
Hayes holds the world record in the silver dollar deadlift at 1235 pounds and emphasizes the sport tests all forms of strength, including pressing a 350 pound log and shouldering a 1000 pound yoke.
After overcoming a rough string of injuries, Hayes placed third at Western Canada's Strongest Man in Calgary this July and earned the Fan's Choice Award at both the Calgary and Beijing Strongman Fest events.
For those interested in the sport, Hayes advises finding a training facility and suggests contacting him through Instagram @sirseaningtoniii; fans can follow his Aug. 30 competition via Circuit Hommes Forts.
