‘I Want to Live an Active Life’: Parkinson’s Sufferer Sets 60-Sport Challenge
Lloyd Taylor is leading the fundraiser with a dozen riders, and donations support national exercise programs for people with Parkinson’s disease.
On Sunday, Aug 9, Lloyd Taylor launched the 2026 Spinning Wheels Tour from Victoria, embarking on an 8,000-kilometre journey to Newfoundland to raise Parkinson awareness and funds.
Diagnosed with early-onset Parkinson in 2022, Taylor initially feared cycling but discovered the activity became a form of therapy and a way to connect with others managing the condition.
Setting off with a dozen riders, many with Parkinson, Taylor emphasized community's role: "Community lightens any burden," he said, encouraging people to leave isolation and engage socially.
Funds raised support national programs promoting exercise and active lifestyles for people with Parkinson; Taylor stressed that donations ensure no one carries the "full weight of their diagnosis alone."
The tour continues eastward, estimated to conclude on Sept 27 in Toronto, as participants aim to demonstrate that illness need not prevent living an active, fulfilling life.
