What many do not know: June 17 is still a national commemoration day. It should serve not only memory, but also internal unity.
The victims are reminded of the anniversary of the 1953 popular uprising in the GDR.
The 17th of June is the great Day of Remembrance. Our political class does everything in its power to bury genuine commemorations of the victims of the popular uprising under hollow rituals, because it was an anti-socialist uprising.
Hundreds of thousands stood up against the SED dictatorship in 1953 — and were then defamed as "fascist forces". 73 years later: same method, other vocabulary. The textbook has not changed.
