Jason Byrne says that ‘mad’ things happen to him all the time; that colourful people find him wherever he goes. On his way to this interview in an Ashbourne hotel, he arrives slightly late, on account of having to direct an elderly driver who had taken a wrong turn and stopped him on the road to ask for directions.

Seven years on from his divorce, Jason Byrne is in 'a great place', but that wasn't the case initially, and he admits he was 'in that space [of wanting to quit comedy]'. The funny man split from his wife, Brenda, in 2018, after 14 years of marriage. It wasn't until six months after their parting ways that they confirmed the news publicly.
