The Bundestag debated for the first time the plans of the black and red coalition for a major reform of the intelligence services. Federal Minister Dobrindt stated that the bill was about protecting democracy and the population.
The Federal Government has announced a strengthening of the intelligence services with a view to hacking and drone attacks. "Yes, news services become real intelligence services," said Interior Minister Dobrindt on Thursday.
The Federal Intelligence Service and the Constitutional Protection Service are expected to be given much more powers. The government promises greater security. The opposition, on the other hand, fears a breach of fundamental rights. Doctors are also concerned.
