Comcast, Disney Ink Deal to End NFL Network Blackout
Comcast said the channels returned in time for preseason games and the regular season after a dispute over distribution terms and subscriber fees.
- On Monday, Comcast reached an agreement with The Walt Disney Company to restore NFL Network and NFL RedZone to Xfinity, ending a months-long blackout for roughly 11 million subscribers just before the 2026 season begins.
- The dispute began when The Walt Disney Company, which owns 72% of ESPN, took over NFL Media assets and demanded "double the fees for the same content," according to a previous statement from Comcast.
- Xfinity TV subscribers have been without the channels since late April, marking the second time in three years that NFL Network has disappeared from the provider following a 2023 dispute involving Comcast CEO Brian Roberts.
- Financial terms remain undisclosed, though Comcast confirmed the channels will return in time for the preseason. Disney claimed it made numerous "good-faith" proposals to keep the channels on Xfinity, but Comcast declined.
- Football coverage resumes for viewers, though industry observers hope this resolution prevents a recurring cycle of blackouts, as Comcast previously retooled pay TV packages to incorporate high sports fees into everyday pricing.
