Climate groups launch ad blitz, warn of threat to whales from major projects push
Environmental groups say the plan could let major projects bypass species protections as only 74 Southern Resident Orcas remained in July 2025, a U.S. agency estimated.
Some of Canada's top environmental groups want the federal government to amend planned legislation aimed at speeding up major projects before it is introduced this fall.
Environmental Defence started an advertising campaign about the risks to Southern Resident Orcas from proposed economic zones related to these legislative changes.
Ecojustice calls the legislation the 'orca extinction bill' and launched a media campaign when Ottawa began focusing on the Roberts Bank Terminal 2 project.
