Thermoenergetics is approaching a financial collapse due to debts of nearly 2 billion lei accumulated to ELCEN, of which 410 million lei represent only penalties. To maintain the supply of heat, the City of Capital has borrowed to pay subsidies, but the pressure on the local budget becomes unsustainable.
The mayor of the capital, Ciprian Ciucu, demanded Wednesday the unification of the production, transport and distribution of thermal energy in a centralized heating system. It claims that the separation between ELCEN and Thermoenergetics generated debts and penalties of hundreds of millions of lei, while the money could have been used to repair the pipes and reduce the losses of the network.
