7-Foot-2 Moustapha Thiam Exits From Cincinnati to Michigan Wolverines
The 7-foot-2 center averaged 12.8 points and 7.1 rebounds last season and will join the defending national champions.
On Friday, former Cincinnati center Moustapha Thiam announced his commitment to the Michigan Wolverines via social media. The 7-foot-2, 250-pound sophomore joins the defending NCAA National Champion program from the transfer portal.
Thiam began his college career at the University of Central Florida before transferring to Cincinnati last spring. The 20-year-old pivot now moves to Ann Arbor for his third school in three years.
During his sophomore season with the Bearcats, Thiam averaged 12.8 points and 7.1 rebounds per game while shooting 52.5% from the field. He recorded 50 blocks over 31 games as Cincinnati's defensive anchor.
Michigan head coach Dusty May has focused on adding size this offseason, previously landing Tennessee big man J.P. Estrella and LSU forward Jalen Reed. Thiam is the third major frontcourt addition for the Wolverines.
The Wolverines, who finished the 2025-26 season 37-3 and won the national championship, are loading up with multiple big men for next season. Thiam, who has two years of eligibility remaining, is widely considered a top-tier portal addition.
