Christmas tree chopped down hours after lights switch-on

Durham Police describe the cutting down of a decade-old village Christmas tree as mindless vandalism and appeal for witnesses to help identify the culprits.

  • Durham Police said Mr Allen urged witnesses to contact via email: david.allan2@durham.police.uk, quoting CRI00653425, as he stated, `We are treating this incident extremely seriously and we will deal with anyone responsible as robustly as the law allows.`
  • To assist the investigation, the force asked members of the public to quote crime reference number CRI00653425 and provide any CCTV or doorbell footage.
  • With images in the public domain, Durham Police released undated handout photos of the felled tree and appealed to local residents to help identify those responsible.
