DEM Party Co-Chairs Tülay Hatimoğulları and Tuncer Bakırhan reacted to the detention of 59 people, including mayors, in an operation targeting Mersin Metropolitan Municipality and two district municipalities. In a joint statement, Hatimoğulları and Bakırhan stated that they did not accept the detentions of 59 people, including Mersin Metropolitan Mayor Vahap Seçer, Yenişehir Mayor Abdullah Özyiğit, and Mezitli Mayor Ahmet Serkan Tuncer.

CHP spokesperson Müslim Sarı arrived in Mersin to support the three CHP mayors detained in the corruption investigation. Sarı stated that they have formed a delegation to follow the process and provide legal and political support to the mayors, and that the party leader is also expected to visit the city.
