Chourio leads Brewers against the Cardinals following 4-hit game
On Monday, outfielder Jackson Chourio returned to the Milwaukee Brewers lineup with four hits, but the team fell 6-3 to the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium to begin a three-game series.
Chourio missed the season's first month after fracturing a bone in his left hand while playing for Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic; teammate Andrew Vaughn also returned from the injured list on Monday.
Despite Chourio reaching base in all five plate appearances, Milwaukee struggled with runners in scoring position, going 1 for 10 and stranding 11 men on base throughout the contest.
Cardinals starter Kyle Leahy pitched 5 1/3 innings of one-run ball, while Iván Herrera drove in three runs; Brice Turang's ninth-inning homer provided Milwaukee's only late-game spark.
The loss drops Milwaukee to last place in the division. Tonight, RHP Brandon Sproat is scheduled to face St. Louis RHP Andre Pallante at 6:45 p.m. in the series continuation.
